File Variable Copy

DEVELOPER

Click on the Copy Variables from File or Dictionary icon in the File Definition toolbar.

At this window you can copy multiple variables from other file definitions or from the Global Dictionary into the current file definition. You can also create new variable names by using customisable prefix and postfix values. All new variables created in this way are automatically added to the dictionary in the same way as the variables that you enter in the main File Definition Window.

  1. Select a File name from the combo box to copy variables from that file definition. This is optional. If left blank, then you are selecting variables from the dictionary, rather than a file definition.

  2. Enter a variable name or partial name in Dictionary variable partial to search for variables in the file entered in the previous field or, if no file was specified, in the global dictionary.

  3. Check the Duplicate Properties box if you want to copy Variable Properties along with the variable. If this is not checked, then all variables will be generated as default edit boxes.

The ability to copy a variable’s properties can save a lot of time when developing a function.

If no Prefix or Postfix are entered, then the actual variables are moved into the file definition, not copies, so the properties will automatically be there.

  4. Enter a Prefix and/or Postfix to be added to the name of all variables that you copy.

  5. Check Insert Before or Insert After to indicate whether the copied variables should be inserted before or after your current position in the file definition.

  6. Select the required variables and click Insert.
