Device Types

Reports may be output to a number of different "report device" types. These include:

  • A physical file or device. (File/Device Name syntax is specific to the kernel platform.)

  • A system spooled printer via the kernel machine.

  • A printer on the Client machine. (The Client itself supports a number of destination options.)

  • A logical device (LP0 to LP10). This in turn will be mapped to one of the above via the device mapping tables, which are described in detail below.

You can specify a finite number of switch combinations for a given logical device. These combinations are shown in the table below. The table denotes that each logical device switch combination has an associated device Type. This device type is used when overriding the standard printer definition settings. (See Overriding the Standard Spooler Level Settings for more information.)
