Open a File Definition - Opens the Open Object dialogue for File Definitions only. When a file definition has been selected, opens it instead of the currently open file, and books it out. The currently open file is automatically closed and booked in (if auto book-in has been selected).

Create New File Definition - Opens the Create new file definition window. When a file definition has been created, opens it instead of the currently open file, and books it out. The currently open file is automatically closed and booked in (if auto book-in has been selected).

or Toggle Auto Book In - Switch between automatically booking in the file definition when closing the edit session, or leaving the file definition booked out.

Backup and Restore File

File Properties - Opens the property sheet for this file definition.

Alternate Index File Mapping – Available for CISAM and relational database files.

Manage Children Definitions - Open a window to manage file children.

Variable Dictionary Definition - Display the dictionary definition for the selected variable.

Copy Variables from File or Dictionary - Open a window to allow one or many variables to be copied into the open file definition from another file definition or the dictionary.

Physically Create File - Physically creates the file once you are happy with the file definition. This is only available for the appropriate file types. For example, relational database files cannot be physically created, an SQL script is needed to drop and create them.

This will destroy any data in the physical file. If you are creating a pseudo file, physically creating the file will destroy any data in the original, copied file.

This group of s are only enabled for relational database file definitions.

Clear Current SQL Script - Clear the current SQL script for this file definition.

Generate New SQL Script from Definition - Generate a new SQL script based on the existing file definition. This will replace any existing SQL script in the SQL tab.

Import SQL Script - Opens a window that lets you select an existing SQL script, and brings it into the SQL tab.

Output SQL to a Script File - Opens a window that lets you select a directory and file name to write the contents of the SQL tab into. The generated script can now be used to create your SQL table.
