Creating a File Definition is usually the first step in building a PROIV application. Before a PROIV Function can store data in, or retrieve data from, a file, you must create a File Definition for the file and then define its file variables.

The File Definition that you create within PROIV Developer is also known as a Logical File. The data processed by the function is actually stored in the physical file. This file may be stored in any of the formats that PROIV can reference: PROISAM, C-ISAM, Oracle, MySQL, SQLSERVER etc. Each physical file used by PROIV must have at least one logical File Definition, but may have more depending upon the application.

Whenever you click OK to exit from the File Definition window, PROIV Developer updates the system.
