The Windows kernel looks at two initialisation files.
Global Initialisation file (prov4[n].ini in the Windows directory)
User specific initialisation file.
One use initialisation file per user ID is allowed.
The user specific initialisation file can be located in any directory on the machine.
The location of the user specific initialisation file must be specified in the global initialisation file in the [User Section] of the INI file.
The user specific initialisation file may contain user specific environment settings and logical database path settings. These are in the same format as the Global Initialisation File, but note that ONLY the [Environment] and [database …] sections are used in user initialisation files (any other sections are ignored).
