Setting up Translation Details for an Object |

This process enables you to set up translation details for an object:
Open an object from the General Object Open screen.
Select the appropriate tab on the Properties window, enter a text string for the object.

Note: You can set translation details for any displayable string. For example, strings in reports, in updates, and in system messages. |
Enable the Translate check box.
The Settings option is enabled.
If warning messages are enabled when the Lexicon is being populated, the following message displays: '... is a new string. Do you wish to add the string to the Lexicon?' PROIV can also be configured to prevent the addition of new strings to the Lexicon.
If you want to fine tune the translations settings for the string, click the Settings option and the Translation Settings window displays.
Enter the appropriate details in the following fields:

String to Translate |
Displays the text which is to be translated. This field is read-only and cannot be amended on this window. |

Max Length |
Enter the maximum length of the translated text. |

If Translation exceeds Maximum Length: |
This section enables you to set the rule if the translated text exceeds the maximum length set in the Max Length field. |

Use Translation |
The string on screen is truncated (with an ellipsis to show this), and the full string displays in a tool tip. This is the default behaviour if no entries are made in the Translations Settings window. |

Truncate to Fit |
The translated text is truncated to fit the space available on the screen and the tooltip or ellipsis is not displayed. Truncation is determined by character length which is kernel/PROIV Lexicon driven. |

Don't Translate |
If the translated text exceeds the maximum length, the base language is used. |

Meaning |
Select the Meaning drop down arrow to display the Meaning for... window. This enables you to set up different meanings for the text being translated. You can set up different meanings and the Lexicon assigns the translated text based on the selected meaning. For example, the word 'file' has several meanings: an electronic record, a metal rasping tool, a cardboard folder, or a line of people or things ranged one behind each other. If you wanted to translate from English to French, you could set up a meaning of 'electronic file' for 'file' and this could be used by the translator during the translation process to assign the translation of 'fichier' (the French for electronic file) to the text. |
Click OK to save changes and exit the Translation Settings window.
