The P4API is a programmer’s toolkit that simplifies the implementation of applications that use tasks. The programmer writes the calling application to call the functions defined in P4API, thereby greatly reducing the amount of complex code to be written and tested. The programmer need only set up calls to the functions in a logical order, and check return values and parameters.

These applications may be run on the Client machine or on any remote machine that meets the requirements. The API provides an interface that can be called from any language that supports calling "C" compatible external functions.
