Open Client Architecture Overview

Open Client is an application deployment method in which Java and AJAXAJAX (Asynchronous JavaScript and XML) is used to create interactive web applications. Data is retrieved from the server asynchronously while the current page remains unmodified. technology is utilised to deploy all, or part of a PROIV application into a web browser. It has a zero installation footprint on a client workstation and employs Web 2.0 technologies to enable the addition of a variety of data sources and PROIV applications to a web-based portal.

The following diagram provides an overview of the communication between the web browser, web server, the Open Client servlet, and the PROIV Virtual Machine.

The following section links take you to a set of topics, which start from the standard PROIV Client and Virtual Machine setup, which you may be familiar with, and build on that to show you how web servers and browsers communicate and then move on to illustrate how Open Client works in the PROIV framework and web server world.
