File X-Reference

DEVELOPER

You access this tool by clicking on the File X-Reference icon in the General Tools tab of the Tools tab.

This tool allows you to find occurrences of a file definition within functions. There are many selection options to make the results as useful as possible.

Simply select the required file definition from the combo box. If the file definition has associates (file definitions that point to the same physical file) then you can opt to include these too. Similarly if the selected file definition has children or maps (indices) then these can also be included. If you currently have a function open then you may opt to restrict the x-reference to that function.

The x-reference may be further refined by limiting the selected file access modes. For example, if you are interested where a file is accessed in Change mode only then uncheck the other options.

The results show all the screen modes for file modes. Non screen functions file access mode is shown under the A column. Additional information shown includes the cycle tag and the read field tag (screens only).

If the result is for an associate, child or map then the name appears under the appropriate columns.

You may print the x-reference or assign all the calling functions to a work list.

See also the bulk file / function x-ref tool, which gives the same functionality for a list of file definitions.
