Add Object Window

DEVELOPER

The left hand side of the Add Objects window has four tabs that allow you to select different categories of object for inclusion in your new fragment: dynamic screen components, cycles, File Accessors and data variables (control breaks are also included for reports). The individual object types displayed in each tab’s listbox are relevant to the current function – for example, report cycles are listed if you are in a report function.

The right hand side of the screen, with the headings Object Type and Name lists the objects that you have added to the new fragment. Above the Object Type and Name headings, marked with a small blue arrow on the left, is the location in the current function after which this new fragment will be pasted when you click OK.

Adding an Object to the Fragment

Select the relevant tab, highlight the required object then click either Insert Below or Insert Above to add the object above or below the object that is currently highlighted in the view of the new fragment in the right hand side of the screen. (Clearly, in the case of the first object selected for the fragment, the choice of insert is irrelevant.)

Tag Names

When you add a File Accessor or a data variable the object name is meaningful. However, dynamic components and cycles will have standard names, for example Editbox1 or ScreenCycle1. When entering properties for the object, you should assign a meaningful tag name. The properties can be entered now, while you are building the fragment, or after it is pasted into the function.

Properties

To open the property sheet for any object in the new fragment, either double click the object, or highlight the object and click Properties.

Clear List

Click Clear List to delete all objects from the new fragment. A message appears allowing you to confirm or cancel the operation.

Delete

Click Delete to delete a selected object from the new fragment. A message appears allowing you to confirm or cancel the operation.

Save

Click Save to save the new fragment as displayed in the right hand side of the screen and return to the current function. The fragment is not pasted into the function, but when you next click Add Object(s) After Current Selection the fragment you have built appears for you to make further changes or paste in as required.

When you are happy with the new fragment, click OK to paste it into the current function at the selected location.
