Each time the PROIV Client is run, it verifies that the Windows registry contains a file association for PIV files to itself.  If not, the PROIV Client creates the association. File Association allows the PROIV Client to use Windows Explorer and enables drag and drop.

Select and activate a .PIV file from Windows Explorer. Once the file is activated, an instance of the PROIV Client is launched and the session specified by the PIV file is started.  If a PROIV Client is already running, Windows Explorer asks the PROIV Client to start the session. If the PROIV Client is connected to a host, it starts a new instance of the PROIV Client and has the PROIV Client start the session. Dragging a PIV file icon onto a running PROIV Client, or PROIV Client program icon, causes the PROIV Client to start in the same manner.
