Setting up Multilingual Standards

This utility helps you to set up the base and runtime languages for the Multilingual module, and to configure the string extraction rules.

Note: You can set Multilingual standards at runtime using the Logic commands Application.BaseLanguage = "xx" and Application.UserLanguage = "yy". Additionally you can also set the runtime language in logic enabling user sessions to run in different languages.

  1. Open the Developer menu and click Admin.
    The Project Administration window appears.

  2. Click Tools tab.

  3. Under Multilingual group, click Standards.
    The
    Multilingual Standards window appears.

  4. Enter the language settings as follows:

Description

Default Base Language

The Base Language has two purposes. At runtime, it is compared with the Default Run-Time Language to verify if translations are needed (if the languages are the same, or the Run-Time Language is not set, then translations are not needed). At development time, it is used to write to the Lexicon when new strings are added to the Lexicon from PROIV Developer.

The default is en. It is a mandatory field. Changing the entry in this field will change the default, and will affect every new session using this environment.

Default Run-Time Language

Sets the runtime language of the application. It determines which translations in the Lexicon are picked up at runtime. The entry can be any string but it must match an entry in the Lexicon. This is a non-mandatory field for development.

For example, if your base language is English and you want the application to be displayed in French at runtime, you would set the Base Language to en and the Run-Time language would be set to fr.

Changing the entry in this field will change the default, and will affect every new session using this environment.

Session Base Language

The default is en. It is a mandatory field. Changing the entry in this field will override the default for the current session only.

Session Run-Time Language

Changing the entry in this field will override the default for the current session only.

String Extraction Rules

These fields are used by the Multilingual Extraction process and are used to determine what is added to the Lexicon.

Minimum Extraction Length

Sets the minimum length under which strings are not extracted. This helps to filter out short strings which are not phrases.

Characters to Exclude from Extraction

Sets the characters which are excluded from the Multilingual Extraction process. This only applies if the string is completely made up of the selected characters. For example you may want to exclude sets of hyphens used as underlines in reports.

  1. Click OK to save settings and to close the screen.
