SOAP Web services

The PROIV SOAP Web Services component executes PROIV tasks using the SOAP (Simple Object Access Protocol) standard; this uses XML (eXtensible Markup Language). To achieve a holistic view of an active SOAP web service transaction, you must enable SOAP web service and capture performance data. For further information, refer to Configure Data Components.

The following transaction events are generated in the SOAP Web Services component:

1. Web Services receives an HTTP request

2. Service details are passed to the PROIV task through Gateway

3. Web Services receives response from the PROIV task that is executed by the Gateway

4. HTTP Response is sent to the sender

Note: There can be other transaction events generated by other components during the transaction.

The SOAP web service component acts as a root component when enabled for performance monitoring. This means, it generates the performance data not only for web service but also its related downstream components such as Gateway and Virtual Machine. Each event that passes through a transaction generates performance data and the data is then stored in the default Performance Monitor database. Refer to Configuring Database Settings to modify the default values of the database setup.
