RESTful Web services

The PROIV RESTful Web Services Component executes PROIV tasks using a standard RESTful interface. To achieve a holistic view of an active RESTful web service transaction, you must enable RESTful Web service component and capture performance data. For further information, refer to Configure Data Components.

The following transaction events are generated in the REST Web Services component:

1. RESTful Web Services engine receives an HTTP request

2. Service details are passed to the PROIV task through Gateway

3. RESTful Web Services receives response from the Gateway

4. HTTP Response is issued to the sender

Note: There can be other transaction events generated by other components during the transaction.

The RESTful web service component acts as a root component when enabled for performance monitoring. This means, it generates the performance data not only for web service but also its related downstream components such as Gateway and Virtual Machine. Each event that passes through a transaction generates performance data and the data is then stored in the default Performance Monitor database. Refer to Configuring Database Settings to modify the default values of the database setup.
