Open Client Administration Overview

The PROIV Open Client Administration area enables the system administrator to create, modify, and delete Open Client Services that define a PROIV Open Client connection to a PROIV Virtual Machine. An Open Client Service determines the connection settings between the web browser and the web server, and how PROIV is rendered in the browser. It contains similar information to the connection section of a PIV file, which is used to configure a PROIV Windows Client Session. Users are then given the URL details which enables them to connect to the PROIV Virtual Machine using the predefined service settings.

Open Client Service Settings

The Open Client like the PROIV Client stores service settings including connection information and interface display properties. However, unlike the PROIV Client, the Open Client stores them on a server and not the local machine.
The connection information, (i.e. the PROIV Virtual Machine server name and port) is defined by the PROIV Open Client Administration when a new service is defined, and is held in an XML file.
The display properties are held in files on the server and referenced using the Resource Paths setting.

Note: The Open Client Administration component is used by System Administrators to set up connections details, which are sent to system users to enable them to access the application. General system users would not use this area to log onto Open Client applications, they would perhaps have a launch page created by their administrator, which contains connection details and made secure through the use of challenge responses.
