The maximum size of a C-ISAM key is 120 bytes and may consist of up to 16 parts. PROIV requires a one-part key that starts at the beginning of the record.  However, this key need not exist in the physical file if only alternate keys are to be used for access. The PROIV File Definition must have a key defined. See the appropriate PROIV Developer’s Guide for more information.

Alternate keys are available with C-ISAM. A key may consist of several fields that are not contiguous in the record layout. When a C-ISAM file is created by PROIV, the PROIV primary key is created as unique and any alternate keys as duplicates. Alternate keys are not supported for CO/DIV dependent files. See Alternate Keys for more information.
