When you define a file, you can specify which file variables are null permissive. The null-permissive columns must match between the database definition and the PROIV File Definition as this ensures data integrity. The database system prevents the writing to columns that contain null values if the columns are not null-permissible.
The system safeguards that null values already in the database are not overwritten with non-null data except when the data is deliberately changed by the program, or the database is unable to return a description of the file.
