A filesystem/DBMS may allow modification, via a single connection, of resources controlled by multiple instances (installations) of the same filesystem/DBMS. For example, an RDBMS may allow remote databases to be updated in a way that is transparent to PROIV. Distributed transaction processing is possible with such a filesystem/DBMS if a distributed (two-phase) commit is performed automatically.
PROIV itself does not provide a two-phase commit capability. If resources controlled by different file systems or DBMSs are modified within a single transaction, those transactions cannot be guaranteed to be atomic.
PROIV versions do not support the use of transaction managers (such as Tuxedo) to provide distributed transaction processing capability.
