Enabling Retry Licence Acquisition

Retry Licence Acquisition functionality enables the repeated retries to acquire a licence. This facility occurs when the initial attempt fails for any reason and the Retry mechanism has been enabled. When enabled, and an attempt to get a licence fails, the PROIV Virtual Machine sleeps for the specified interval and then retries to acquire the licence. This is repeated until the duration period has been exceeded. If the final attempt to acquire the licence fails (which occurs after the duration has expired the session terminates) the session terminates.

You can enable the Retry Licence Acquisition functionality by following these steps:

  1. Open the PROIV Control Panel.

  2. Select the PROIV Virtual Machine node.

  3. Select the Virtual Machine Settings node.

  4. Select Environment.

  5. The PROIV Virtual Machine Configurator - Environment section appears which contains all of the currently enabled settings in the pro4v[n].ini.

  6. To enable Retry Licence Acquisition functionality, enter LICENCE_SERVER_RETRY_INTERVAL in the New Key Name field. This specifies the minimum interval between retries, in seconds. Click here for more information about how LICENCE_SERVER_RETRY_INTERVAL and LICENCE_SERVER_RETRY_DURATION keys interact.

  7. Click Add Key.

  8. If required, enter the LICENCE_SERVER_RETRY_DURATION in the New Key Name field. This specifies the minimum time for retries to be attempted for, in seconds.

Note: This facility is only implemented in the PROIV Virtual Machine and only supported when the VM is not used with a graphical client. Currently, the enhancement does work with the graphical client, but waits for an operator response after displaying the error message each time the retry fails to acquire a licence.
