040     NUMERIC CONVERSION ERROR - EXTERNAL FILE - filename

Cause:             The numeric field in a record read from a non-PROIV file is incompatible with the external type specified in the file definition.  For example, the data may be zoned but defined as packed (COMP-3).

Action:            Check the field definition of the problem field for compatibility.
