File Maintenance

The following table describes what to enter into the fields on the Editing File Definition window for Reality files.

Definition Tab

 

Type

Enter a valid data type. Enter S if you want to define the attribute as a Subfile. The Subfile option is only available for selection for REALX and ALL File Types.

Variable

Enter the name of the attribute or recurring value.  (Note that although PROIV does not use Reality dictionaries, you are advised to use the same name when defining the Data Definition Item in the Reality dictionary.) For a Subfile type variable, the variable name is the name of a Subfile that can be accessed via a corresponding Subfile definition (see Defining a Subfile).

Length

Enter length of the File Variable.

Dimension

Enter dimension of the File Variable.

Variable Description or Dictionary Help

Enter description of File Variable or Dictionary Help.

Encrypt

Select to ensure PROIV performs encryption and decryption on the File Variable and make it unreadable by other applications. The encryption key is a string of up to 32 bytes long and set on the File Properties window.

Note that this feature is not supported for Reality files.

Storage Tab

 

Ext Type

Defaults to ALPHA for Reality files.
