PROIV Supported Platforms
We always recommend that users run the latest release available for their platform.
- Support will be provided to earlier versions, but we may require that you upgrade to the latest version as part of any fault investigation and we reserve the right to not provide full support to old versions.
- It is our policy to only apply code fixes to the latest releases.
Please note: only the platforms and combinations listed in the tables below are supported.

The table below provides a summary of the Operating Systems and Platforms that we currently support, along with the Databases available on that combination.
More details, including specific version numbers and relevant notes can be found in the current Release Notes links alongside each platform lising below.
Supported Platform information for earlier versions can be found in the relevant Release Notes for that version, which can be accessed via the Documentation and Releases page.

Warning: Initial testing has shown Firefox 11 to be incompatible with PROIV and we recommend that you prevent Mozilla from automatically updating to this version. We are currently investigating and hope to fix this soon.
The following table outlines the minimum version of Java required to run PROIV Version 7 and 6.2.
Note: PROIV Version 6.2 is designed to operate with Java 5, however the PROIV Open Client component has a minimum Java requirement of Version 6.
We therefore recommend that Java 6 is installed for use with PROIV Version 6.2.

PROIV Version 7 and 6.2 make use of the C++ Standard Template Library (STL) in several of the product components.
The PROIV Virtual Machine has a dependency on these libraries being present in order to operate correctly.
In most cases the libraries are installed by default with the base operating system.
However, if they are not, the table below llists the versions of the STL used by PROIV in testing and where patches or runtime distributions may be obtained from.

General Notes
| General | PROIV only support the operating systems and versions outlined in our supported platforms matrix above. If you choose to develop or deploy an application on an unsupported platform, then it is at your own risk. Should you have a requirement for PROIV to support another platform then please submit your requests to Product Management who will be happy to discuss your requirements.
|
| Oracle | Due to the numerous releases supplied by Oracle, the release indicated against each platform is the release on which this version of PROIV has been built and tested. Please contact your Account Manager if you wish to use a different combination.
|
| Oracle 9i | Since the Production Release of PROIV Version 6 in September 2006, Oracle has announced that the Premier Support service for Oracle 9i would cease from the end of July 2007 to be replaced by Extended Support. As part of Oracles end of life process, Extended Support for Oracle 9i will be available until July 2010. Oracle has agreed to give the first year of Extended Support free of charge, with the second and third years being chargeable. However, one condition on this arrangement is that while Oracle 9i is in Extended Support Oracle will only issue hot fixes and patches against the latest version of the database (9.2.0.8 for most platforms). Other support will be restricted to advice and guidance. As a result, all PROIV port and Quality Assurance systems are being upgraded to version 9.2.0.8. As a consequence of Oracles plans, PROIV will support Oracle 9i (specifically 9.2.0.8) until the end of July 2008. After this date PROIV will no longer be able to provide support for that release of the database.
|
| Oracle 11g R1 | From June 2010 (in addition to Windows, Solaris and AIX) we will be supporting Oracle 11g on HPUX PA-RISC 64bit, HPUX Itanium, Linux x86 and Linux x64. We will not be supporting it on OpenVMS Itanium, Linux zSeries, Windows 2008 R2, as it isn't available from Oracle on these platforms.
|
| Oracle 11g R2 | We will be supporting Oracle 11gR2 from the September 2010 maintenance release, on AIX 64bit, HPUX Itanium, Solaris 64bit, Linux x86, Linux x64, Windows x86, Windows x64. Based on the release schedule from Oracle, we are aiming to also offer support fof HPUX PA-RISC 64bit in December 2010, OpenVMS Itanium in April 2011 and Linux zSeries in June 2011.
|
| Microsoft Windows Vista | Windows Vista (Business, Enterprise and Ultimate editions) is only supported running one PROIV user concurrently. For multi-user systems, you should use a Server release of Microsoft Windows such as Microsoft Windows 2003 Server or Microsoft Windows 2008 Server.
|
| SQL Server | PROIV Version 6 was tested using the following SQL Server drivers. For SQL Server 2005 version number 2005.90.2047.00 and for SQL Server 2000 version number 2000.86.1830.00.
|
| Service Packs | SP = Service Pack, SP1 = Service Pack 1, etc.
|
| 64-bit Migration | Many of the hardware vendors are moving from a 32-bit architecture to a 64-bit architecture. Oracle, PROIV and other vendors are releasing 64-bit versions of their software on these platforms. In general, 64-bit operating systems can still run 32-bit programs, however, you will NOT be able to mix 32-bit and 64-bit software. This means that with the 32-bit version of PROIV you need to link in 32-bit versions of the Oracle Client, CISAM and any external subroutines. Also, with the 64-bit version of PROIV you need 64-bit versions of the Oracle Client, CISAM and any external subroutines.
|
| Reality | PROIV supports Reality Partition databases. It does not support Reality Fileset databases. Reality is supported on Red Hat Linux AS/ES version 4 (Intel x86).
|
| Windows XP Professional | Windows XP Professional is only supported running one PROIV user concurrently. For multi-user systems, you should use a Server release of Microsoft Windows such as Microsoft Windows 2003 Server or Microsoft Windows 2008 Server.
|
| MFC Client | The PROIV Windows client is not currently officially certified on Citrix platforms. The PROIV Windows client is only supported on Citrix in so far as Citrix supports all Windows operations. Any problems found running the PROIV client on a Citrix platform must first be reproduced on a standard PROIV supported Windows platform before PROIV Support will accept it as a PROIV issue. PROIV are working to certify the PROIV client on Citrix and hope to announce official support shortly.
|
| Solaris | UltraSPARC Tx processors are not supported
|
PROIV and Virtualisation
Virtualisation has become increasingly popular and PROIV recognise that our customers are choosing to use it in their infrastructure.
PROIV make extensive use of virtualisation within our portation and QA infrastructures.
The PROIV policy on support of virtualisation is based on the host operating system being supported by that infrastructure.
If this is the case, and the hosted operating system is supported by PROIV, then PROIV will support the installation.
This expands on the previous supported VMWare virtualisation environment to include others which are becoming increasingly popular.
Supported Platform Guidelines
The list of platforms (operating systems and databases) supported by PROIV is regularly reviewed. Subject to customer demand, new platforms may be added to the list, and old or obsolete platforms may be end-of-lifed.
When a supplier of a supported platform releases a new version of their technology, PROIV will:
- Decide whether to support the new release.
- Decide if it warrants a full QA test before it will be supported. In general, QA tests will be required for all but minor releases.
- Where necessary make product changes to support the new release.
- Conduct QA test (where required).
- Announce support for new version.
Note that PROIV will only validate new versions of a supported platform or database once they have been production released by the supplier and are deemed stable by PROIV. Inevitably, there will be a delay between a supplier production releasing a new version and PROIV announcing support for it.
When a supplier of a supported platform withdraws a version of their technology from their normal support service, PROIV will also stop supporting that version. In general, PROIV's policy is to follow suppliers' policies where possible, i.e. to support those platform versions that are fully supported by the supplier.
Visit our Products & Platform End of Life page for full details on these items.
